Praying for the New President

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. (1 Timothy 2:1-2 NKJV)

This coming Tuesday we will see one of the most enduring symbols of democracy carried out. That is the peaceful transition of government from one administration to another. History will be made in that our first black president will take office.

There is a lot of speculation in what President may or may do in his first days. But, as Christians, we need to pray that the first thing he will do each and every day is to seek God’s guidance for the day in the leading of this nation. We need to pray for those who will be chosen to give him guidance and direct the policies of this nation in the coming years.

We need to pray for his safety and that of his family. We should pray that in the busy-ness of the office which he will hold, he will not forget that his primary role is as a husband and father.

May we be faithful in our duty to pray.
